Wole Soyinka is an English-language Nigerian playwright, novelist, poet and essayist. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1986 for "a broad cultural perspective and poetic overtones that shape the drama of existence". Soyinka was born into a Yoruba family in Abeocutá.
